Torres began on February 3rd, 1963 at 2710 Minnesota Avenue. There was seating for eight at the counter and had three tables that sat 4 and one that sat six. We stayed at that location until 1971 at which time we moved to a small location next to Kasper's photo on North 29th street for only one year. After changing locations several times in September of 1981 Josie, and Chuck began running the restaurant, and in 1989 moved to what is now our current location on S Frontage Road and closing the 5th Street location in 1993.
The cafe began its roots at the Fiesta Fundraiser for Our Lady of Guadalupe. My parents spent all their time keeping the parish going. Our annual fiesta was where my Mother cooked for large crowds along with the other ladies of the parish. After 9 years people approached her about catering dinners and to open a small cafe.
My daughter Carolyn was working as early as 8 years old doing as much as she could. She stayed until she was married in 2006, but is still part of the cafe today. My youngest sister Lupie helps a few nights a week. The rest of the girls have moved and are enjoying their families.
